Tips for Roses After a Cold, Damp SpringWhether You Already Have Roses or You’re Thinking of Planting New Ones… The cold, damp spring we’ve experienced this year has created some challenges for roses. Aphids could be abundant, and blackspot and rust could be more noticeable on your favorite roses. Al's has some solutions for handling this year’s challenges on existing plants and even some tips for planting new roses that require less care.
If you’re considering planting some new roses and want one that is disease resistant, try a Double Knock Out® rose. The Knock Out® series of roses is one of the most disease resistant roses available.
The Double Knock Out® roses are great performers, blooming generously from mid-spring until the first hard frost with full double flowers that look just like the classic rose. The Double Knock Out® roses have up to 25 petals on each flower, nearly double the original Knock Out roses.
In the landscape Double Knock Out® roses have a classic look, with some great features such as an abundance of flowers, resistance to blackspot and no need for deadheading. These repeat bloomers will perform all summer long.
You can really create a strong impact with Double Knock Out® Roses when you plant them in groups of three or more. You can even create a hedge with them. The Double Knock Out® Rose is a highly versatile shrub that works almost anywhere you put it. It is covered with fuller, richer, cherry-red blossoms that can really add a great “wow” factor to your yard. The maximum height and width is approximately 4’x4’.
If you already have roses in your yard, Al's has what you need to handle a few aphids. We have both traditional and organic methods for getting rid of the green pests.
