Mountain
Laurel
Kalmia
latifolia (otherwise known as Mountain Laurel) are a great evergreen shrub
for the Pacific Northwest! Many varieties bear flowers that are distinctly
banded and almost appear to be inside out. The evergreen foliage makes
this shrub a nice addition to your landscape year-round. Kalmias grow
and thrive in moist, acidic, humus-rich soil which makes them a perfect
companion to Rhododendrons and Azaleas. They flourish in partial shade,
but can grow in more sun as long as you keep the soil moist. Like
rhododendrons, Kalmia should not be grown in deep shade, as they won?t
flower well. |
