Bleeding
hearts
The delicate heart-shaped blooms of Old Fashioned Bleeding
Hearts, Dicentra Spectabilis, remind us that spring is close at hand.
There may be the early daffodils and crocus blooming but Old Fashioned
Bleeding Hearts are one of the first plants to break through their winter
sleep. Fern-like foliage starts to push up when not much else is happening
in the garden. They are native to eastern Asia and Japan but have been in
American gardens for many years. For generations, the unique flowers have
entertained little girls who wear them as dangling earrings or give
bouquets of them to their Moms. |
