Challenge Judge - Judy Alleruzzo, Al's
Perennial Buyer and Co-host of GardenTime TV Show
Fall containers are all about texture. By the end of
August, I’m tired of primary or pastel colors of the summer bloom
flowers. I’m ready for change. I want the warm and cool colors of
fall in the Northwest. A few changes to my spring-summer containers should
satisfy my season itch.
One of the things I love about creating fall containers
is that it is all texture, color, structure and foliage. There are not as
many blooming plants in the fall, so you have to get creative. I love the
colorful foliage of Coral Bells (Heucheras) when paired with Sedge Grass
and the bold texture of Bergenia combined with delicate fern fronds.
Coming up with these combinations can be challenging, but also a lot of
fun.
With this in mind I "challenged" my Purple
Teammates to inspire me, and you, with containers that celebrate the fall
plants.
To keep everything fair and even, we set up a few
guidelines.
1. The plant material had to represent the
textures and
colors of fall.
2. They had to use between 5 and 10
varieties of plants.
3. They could use a maximum of a 20 inch
pot.
4. They had to WOW me.
I have to say I was impressed. Each brought
their own style and lots of creativity to their designs. After reviewing
all of them I just couldn’t choose. So I’m going to let you
tell me which is your favorite container. Check out each
container by clicking the link to the left, and then
VOTE online for your favorite. Then come in to Al’s and
check out our amazing fall interest plant material to inspire your own
container creations.
