Bronze Sculptures: MaintenanceBronze is a highly durable copper alloy which has been used for
centuries for both functional and decorative purposes. It can endure
all climatic conditions and will last thousands of years. It is truly
a “worry-free” addition to your home or garden and will give
you, and future generations, years of enjoyment.
If kept inside, very little is required of your statuary other than
an occasional dusting.
Outside, exposed to nature’s elements, your fountain or
statuary will eventually begin to oxidize and, over time, will acquire its
own individual verdigris (green) patina. During this process, it is
normal and natural to see occasional streaks of other colors like brown,
white, and green, resulting from reactions to weather exposure and the
different metals used in the bronze alloy.
To maintain its original applied patina finish, a periodic light
waxing will retard this natural oxidation process. It is recommended
that any dirt or water spots be cleaned off before waxing. Hard water
spots can be removed by rubbing gently with very fine steel wool
(#0000.) Use a soft cloth or brush to apply a clear paste wax, (such
as Johnson’s), then buff to the desired shine. A good car wax
spray, (like a Carnauba Wax or Armor All) is also very effective and
easy. The rate of oxidation and necessary waxing will vary depending
on location and climate.
