These are all the words that are on the top of my mind right now. This season has a
way of reminding us it is time to celebrate all of the wonderful gifts we
have in life. It is the time to remember these blessings and take the time
to enjoy them, cherish them, and share them.
remember it!
This year the Northwest gave us the weather to have a spring to remember,
and more people than ever got out and decided to garden. We heard from
many people that it was their first time for a garden, and we were honored
that they chose Al's to help them. We also had many returning gardeners.
Customers would stop me to tell me they hadn't gardened in years, but they
too were bitten by the gardening bug this year. I want to thank all of you
who allowed us to share your gardening experience this year and hope we
can continue to grow together.
share it!
This year, I'm not sure I understand it, but I'm excited to announce that
Al's Garden Centers has joined the world of social media. I throughly
enjoy our Al's Bloom Magazine and we will continue to offer it to Al's
Garden Rewards Members in 2010, but we just have so much to say and share,
that we decided to go virtual. You can now find Al's Garden Center on
Facebook (www.facebook.com/alsgardencenter) and Twitter
(www.twitter.com/alsgardencenter). Weekly and daily we will share what's
happening at Al's as well as gardening tips, photos and stories. We would
love for you to become a fan or follow us and share your own comments.
enjoy it!
I'm also excited to announce to all you Foodies, Ice ApplesTM are back! [pg. 17] My mouth is watering
just thinking about these once a year treats. You will never, NEVER taste
anything sweeter. This year our friends at Wellspring's restaurant,
Vitality, have come up with some great delicious and nutrious recipes
using the Ice ApplesTM. As always,
quantities are limited, so don't delay, or you might have to wait until
2010 to try them again.
give it!
This year we have added a new member to our growing team, Jill West.
You'll need to come in and see the beautiful poinsettias her team grew.
Jill will be hosting a tour of our poinsettia growing facility out at our
Gresham location. We have grown over 40 different varieties to chose from
this year. To try to help you out we had a few of our Purple People pick
their favorite poinsettias and tell us why. [pg. 9] Poinsettias
make great gifts to bring to parties, and there are some fun facts in this
issue you can remember and share with your guests. [pg. 8]
cherish it!
The holidays are a time for family. Those of you that have kids know they
will be out of school on break soon and keeping them entertained is often
a challenge. My daughter-in-law, Amy Bigej, has a great holiday project
you can do with your kids this season. [pg. 16] It's not only
easy and fun, but times like these with your kids are priceless.
decorate it!
You've got to come in and see our home decor departments in Woodburn and
Sherwood. Santa's Elves have nothing on our team of decorators. This year
they've come up with 20 different designer-decorated themed trees. Inside
this magazine you'll find a special bonus, our first ever issue of
Celebrate. In it you'll find all sorts of
decorating inspirations for the holiday season.
My family and I love the Christmas season. We've worked hard all year and
it's our time to celebrate! We want to invite you to come out and
celebrate with us during our 9th annual Evening of Lights. [pg.
2] This year we've decided to keep the party going, and continue to
kickoff the holiday season November 7th & 8th with our Holiday
Happenings Weekend. [pg. 2] Join us for a weekend filled with
educational events and seminars. I've also heard Mrs. Claus is taking time
out of her busy schedule to come to Al's and read Christmas stories to good
little girls and boys.
From my family and all the Purple People we want to wish you a warm and
safe holiday season.
Happy Gardening,
Jack Bigej
